Automotive Charge Air Cooler Market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.72% during the forecasting period 2020-2027

Syndicated report on Automotive Charge Air Cooler Market - size, share, and forecast (2020-2027) has been added to DataM Intelligence’s product offering.

Charge Air cooler has been used on turbocharged and supercharged engines. They are designed to cool down the heated intake air that comes from the compressor or turbocharger. It is also used in various applications such as air compressors, air conditioners, refrigerators, and gas turbines, and mainly in automotive, it is used as air to air charge air cooler and air to liquid charge air cooler for internal combustion engines to improve their volumetric efficiency by increasing intake air charge density through constant pressure cooling. Hot air entering the machine may create a higher combustion temperature, which makes a nitrogen oxide formation and increases thermal load on the engine. Charge air cooler as an interface, which converts hot air from a turbocharger or a supercharger to cool air entering the combustion engine. It also contributes towards the reduction in turbo lag and improves engine volumetric efficiency.

Market Dynamics

Market Segmentation

The air-to-air charge air cooler market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 8.55% during the forecast period (2020-2027)  to reach a market value of USD  6,469.51  million in 2027.

Air to air charge air cooler segment holds a share of 72% in the global automotive charge air cooler market in 2019. The air-to-air cooled charge air cooler is part of a high-tech induction system that increases engine combustion efficiency. The turbocharger uses exhaust gases to compress air before it enters the charge-air cooler. The compressed air going through the charge-air cooler is then cooled by the ambient air flowing across the cooler fins. The idea is to return the air to a lower temperature for the engine's optimum power for the combustion process. This device is used on turbocharged and supercharged (forced induction) internal combustion engines to improve their volumetric efficiency by increasing intake air-charge density through isochoric cooling. A decrease in air intake temperature provides a denser intake charge to the engine and allows more air and fuel to be combusted per engine cycle, increasing the engine's output. Air to an air-cooled charge air cooler is generally mounted standalone in the radiator's front only where the charge air/air cooler is located in conventional air-cooled or direct charge air cooling. Since the low-temperature radiator needs significantly less space than a comparable charge air/air cooler, space is freed up in the front end.

Geographical Analysis

The North American market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 9.74% during the forecast period (2020-2027).

North America is a mature economy as far as investment in the automotive industry is concerned. In the coming years, the automotive industry expects huge investment by several giants due to the rising demand for passenger cars. This increased investment will result in the growing demand for the automotive charge air cooler market. For instance, GM has more than doubled U.S. sales of vehicles with turbocharged engines from about 288,000 in 2011, or less than 12 percent of U.S. sales, to 712,000 in 2016, or 23 percent.  That increase reflects significantly expanded penetration of turbos in GM's car models, to 49 percent of car sales in 2016, up from just 5 percent in 2010. The rise in demand for luxury vehicles has increased for a comfortable driving experience to boost the market's growth. Regarding the overall luxury car market, the leading premium car brands include Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Toyota’s Lexus brand, and Tesla. In 2018, luxury cars' global market was sized at almost 495 billion euros in the U.S.

The major players operating in the industry are Bell Intercoolers, Forge Motorsport Inc., Garrett Motion Inc., Kale Oto Radyator, Mishimoto, Modine Manufacturing, MAHLE Gmbh, Valeo Group, and Marelli Holdings Co., Ltd, among others. The leading players focus on increasing research and development (R&D) projects to introduce innovative products with improved functionality. In May 2017, Genesis begun the first retail deliveries of the new 2018 G80 3.3T sport sedan, with new intercoolers in the engine across the United States. Moreover, acquisition, new product launches, and partnerships are the major strategies adopted by the industry's leading companies. The companies are heavily investing in the market to develop new products. They are collaborating and acquiring other companies, which help increase their market share and strengthen the R & D.
