USA Agricultural Adjuvants Market

Growing need to limit pesticide wastage

Growing need to limit pesticide wastage

When pesticides are applied directly to the targeted areas, surface tension, volatilization, compatibility, solubility, stability, foaming, suspension, droplet size, drift, coverage area, adherence, penetration, and several other factors cause significant pesticide loss. Inappropriate use of pesticides can have a negative impact on the human and environment. Despite advanced pesticide application technologies, there are still several cases of environmental contamination, such as inappropriate residue disposal or spray drift during applications. As a result, the use of adjuvants in pesticide spray mixtures is becoming more important in order to improve performance and physical properties of the spray mixture. They go through multiple functions, such as ensuring its uniform spread on the leaves, enhancing the wettability of the crop protection chemical, increasing its compatibility with foliar fertilizer sprays and increasing penetration in the case of systemic crop protection chemicals among others.

Instability, incompatibility, drift, foaming, evaporation, volatilization, degradation, adherence, penetration, surface tension, and coverage are all issues that agricultural adjuvants minimize or eliminate. They also perform wetting, sticking, spreading, emulsifying, buffering, and dispersing functions. They can also have a positive impact on water hardness management. All of these factors contribute to increased pesticidal product penetration into plants and insect pests with minimum wastage. Therefore, factors such as growing need to limit pesticide wastages and ability of agricultural adjuvants to enhance penetration rate of pesticides into plants and insects are expected to drive the growth of the agricultural adjuvants market in the USA.

Increased infestation of pests

Global warming can lead to extreme changes in weather conditions such as longer droughts, increased rainfall, shorter winters, and more frequent storms. Such volatile weather conditions affect plant growth and increase pest infestation. The increase in temperature leads to higher growth rates and higher reproduction in insects and unmanageable weed development. A variable climate also increases the prevalence of crop and plant diseases. For instance, an increase in precipitation leads to the spread of needle blight. Needle blight is a fungal disease found in plants. Adjuvant-based pesticides are required to control this type of infection as well as pest infestation.

Managing glyphosate-resistant weeds

Genetically engineered or roundup-ready crops are resistant to glyphosate. Such crops are treated with only one chemical regularly. Some weeds are totally controlled due to their high susceptibility to the chemical, whereas others need to be treated with different herbicides. Over the years, weed communities have become unmanageable and need to be treated with herbicides more than once. To increase the effectiveness of herbicides, adjuvants are added to them. The increasing use of herbicides on genetically engineered crops is contributing to the growth of the agricultural adjuvant market

Market Opportunities

Increased demand for green adjuvant

  • Eco friendly bio-based adjuvants such as methylated seed oil (MSO), modified vegetable oils, and organo-modified siloxanes have been developed in recent years.
  • Because of their high level of safety and biodegradability, these biologically derived adjuvants are considered environmentally friendly.
  • The world population is showing a shift toward higher demand for organically produced foods at the time of the COVID outbreak. People are worried about their health as a result of the virus outbreak, and there is a growing demand for hygienic, healthy, and nutritious food in the markets.
  • As a result, demand for green and organic adjuvants is expected to remain stable in the pandemic times, with a shift toward organic farm produce.

Use of green chemistry and nanoparticles as adjuvant

  • Nanotechnology is potentially capable of effectively targeting a specific species and reducing wastage of the product. It could address concerns about residue and drift control.
  • It would also facilitate the efficient use and safer handling of adjuvant-based pesticides. Controlled release of adjuvant-based pesticides will expose the environment to fewer chemicals thereby ensuring less contamination.
  • Nanotechnology is trying to incorporate green chemistry into its latest inventions to minimize pollution in the environment. Max Systems introduced an adjuvant, NanoRevolution 2.0, based on nanotechnology in June 2015

Advances in technology

  • Various mobile apps and new improved designs of pesticide applicators such as tip flow monitors and high-tech spray nozzles are likely to come on the market as a result of the continuous improvements in the available technologies.
  • Such innovations would make the usage of adjuvants more effective and efficient. For instance, a tip flow monitor would help in pesticide application by alerting the user to the existence of a blockage in the spray path or any other issue.
  • Different types of sprays would be helpful in the easy flow of pesticides with well-set pressure as per the requirement.
  • Also, the development of mobile apps would help farmers to mix the various adjuvants and pesticides in the correct ratio for specific crops
