Global Cardiology Pacemaker Programmer Market is Segmented By Type (Wireless Pacemaker, Wired Pacemaker), By End-User (Hospitals, Diagnostic Centre, Others), and By Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa) – Share, Size, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, 2023-2030.

Cardiology Pacemaker Programmer Market Overview

Cardiology Pacemaker Programmer Market is expected to reach at a high CAGR 3% during the forecast period (2023-2030).

The pacing rate is the rate at which electrical impulses are sent out. Almost all modern pacemakers are demand-driven. This means that they can be programmed to change the discharge rate based on the body's needs. The programmer is the ideal partner for flexible and convenient implantable cardiac device implantations and follow-ups.

Cardiology Pacemaker Programmer Market Dynamics

Recent advancements in programmable pacemakers are expected to drive the global cardiology pacemaker programmer market in the forecast period.

Recent advancements in programmable pacemakers are expected to drive market growth in the forecast period

After implantation, the important electrical characteristics of conventional ventricular demand pacemakers, which are currently used, cannot be changed non-invasively. However, many domestic pacemaker manufacturers have begun introducing a new atraumatic modulation modality for these devices, the fully programmable pacemaker system. The various variables regulating pacemaker operation can be optimized on an individual basis on need. Variable programmable pacemaker functions include rate, energy output, refractory period, and sensing threshold. In modern PMs, in addition to pacing mode selection, several specific programmable options are available in favor of pacing mechanisms that could mimic the physiologic function of the heart. These include optimized management of the programmed pacing rate (lower rate, rate hysteresis, rate responsiveness), AV conduction (automatic search of intrinsic AV conduction or reversion from AAI to DDD mode), and other specific algorithms for symptom reduction. Modern pacemakers perform a variety of functions. VVI (ventricular demand pacing) and AAI (atrial demand pacing) are the most basic options. A sensed ventricular event inhibits the VVI mode, which senses and paces the ventricle. On the other hand, the AAI mode senses and paces in the atrium, and each sensed event causes the generator to fire within the P wave.

On May 6th,2019, the FDA approved Medtronic's new device manager platform, which allows physicians to programme and download data from compatible cardiac implants using an iPad.

Limitations related to cardiology pacemaker programmer is expected to hamper the market growth

The remarkable progress in pacemaker programmer has recently given rise to new issues, namely the increased time and knowledge required by physicians to provide the best post-operative care for all implanted patients. A sophisticated device capable of providing optimal diagnostics and therapy to each patient's needs necessitates individualized programming, which is usually different from the manufacturer's 'default setting. Furthermore, as the patient's clinical status changes, adjustments to device programming are frequently required, and device malfunctions must be discovered as soon as they appear because they may jeopardize patient safety.

The increasing complexity of pacemaker interrogation and programming necessitates a higher level of training for the caring physician, and the possibility of programming errors increases. These demands clash with the growing shortage of physicians and paramedics, primarily due to healthcare and hospital budget constraints.

COVID-19 Impact Analysis

Cardiovascular manifestations associated with Covid-19 have been noted in several publications, and bradycardia related to Covid-19 is a commonly reported complication. In the era of COVID-19, the management of heart disease patients with the concomitant virus infection has not been completely defined yet. Moreover, as another known cardiotropic virus in the case of myocardial involvement, the hypothesis that COVID-19 could lead to the worsening of conduction system disorders, sinus node disease or new-onset high degree AV block, is understudied. However, no cases have been already described. Interestingly, it is known that TPM (Temporary cardiac pacing) patients are up to 2.5 times more prone to develop an infection before the PM implantation, with higher mean reported complication rates, such as lead's dislodgement with malsensing/malpacing, pneumothorax, and cardiac perforation. Hence, COVID-19 impacted the global cardiology pacemaker programmer market due to the fear of infection and other pacemaker-related issues.

Cardiology Pacemaker Programmer Market Segment Analysis

Based on type, the wireless pacemaker is expected to dominate the market growth in the forecast period

Researchers created a temporary pacemaker that is wirelessly powered and degrades harmlessly in the body after use. Animal and human heart tissue studies revealed that the device could produce enough power to pace a human heart without causing damage or inflammation. According to a study at the European Society of Cardiology congress in London, a wireless pacemaker inserted directly into the heart without surgery was effective and safe for most patients.  The wireless pacemaker is now primarily intended for a small percentage of patients who have an abnormal heart rhythm known as long-term persistent atrial fibrillation, as well as a slow heartbeat. Because the new technology employs a catheter rather than surgery, avoiding an incision that leaves a scar on their chests will be appealing and is expected to drive the market growth.

On September 4th 2020, Micra AV was manufactured by Medtronic,  a second-generation wireless pacemaker that is the size of a large multivitamin and was approved by the FDA. It is implanted directly into the heart and is intended for use in patients with AV block, a heart condition in which electrical signals are impaired between the chambers—the atria and the ventricle.

Cardiology Pacemaker Programmer Market Geographical Share

North America region accounted for the largest market share in the global cardiology pacemaker programmer market

The increased use of a pacemaker and product launches by key companies in this region is expected to drive market growth.

According to studies, an estimated 1.5 million Americans wear a pacemaker. These figures are expected to rise as a result of an ageing population and rising pacing indicators. Only one leadless pacemaker (Micra [Medtronic PLC; Minneapolis, MN]) has been approved for use in the United States by the US Food and Drug Administration. The introduction of U.S FDA-cleared MRI-conditional pacemaker models has been one of the most significant trends in pacemaker technology in recent years. These allow patients to have MR imaging exams without causing harm to the device or changing its settings. Pacemakers that do not have MRI-conditional use technology usually prevent patients from getting an MRI. All U.S. pacemaker vendors now offer MRI-safe device technologies. Hence, this latest addition provided by the U.S based manufacturers is also expected to drive the market of pacemakers in this region.
