Middle East and Africa wood packaging market valued US$ 1,436.61 million in 2019 and is estimated to reach US$ XX million by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 3.1% during the forecast period.

Middle East & Africa is one of the high-growth economic regions in the global wood packaging market, estimated to account for a share of 2.31% in 2019.

Growing e-commerce activities and development in the economy in various countries of this region are some of the major driving forces that are propelling the growth of the Middle East & African wood packaging market.

In MEA, packaging sales supported by increased investment in food production and processing, substantial investments in new packaging converting capacity and increased availability of locally produced and low-priced base substrates are driving the packaging industry.

Additionally, regional slow-down and geopolitical bottlenecks are getting cleared in recent years, which have created a favorable market scenario for the wood packaging market in this region.

In MENA, the packaging market was earlier valued at about US$ 41.1 billion in 2014, whereas during the period 2014–19, it increased at a CAGR of 5 percent to US$52.4 billion, which shows the great potential of the packaging industry in this region compared to developed countries.

Per capita consumption of packaging products in the African region at present is about 12 kg and is expected to grow rapidly in developing countries of the African region such as South Africa, UAE, Nigeria etc.

Growing investment and collaboration of various international institutes and enterprises in this region are strengthening the wood packaging market.

For instance, The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP), a member of WPO in U.S., has collaborated with the Institute of Packaging Professionals-Kenya, another WPO member, to license its new Fundamentals of Packaging Technology online course and provide the complete packaging training program to IoPP members in Kenya, and other countries in the region.

Developing countries of Africa are increasingly organizing international events to attract potential investors into this region which seems successful as the growing packaging industry is substantial in this region.

Growing innovation in new packaging methods is also deemed as an attractive factor of the Middle East and African region as it has created employment and sustainability in the packaging industry.

For instance, the packaging of olive oil in Egypt consisted of a wooden box made out of recycled light wooden boards enclosed with papyrus which is a thick paper-like material manufactured from the pith of the papyrus plant Cyperus papyrus. Additionally, the papyrus is hand-painted with scenes of old Egyptian civilization.

For this new innovative packaging style, consumers in export markets were fascinated to buy from a new non-traditional producer with a small track record in the market, even if the painting on the packaging though holds no relation to olive oil whatsoever. The package, which is completely hand-made, also helped sustain the livelihood of craftsmen and women and young artists in this country.
