Water Aerators are various devices used for aeration, or mixing air with water. These devices are used to add oxygen to the water. In municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, aeration is part of the stage known as the secondary treatment process. The activated sludge process is the most common option in secondary treatment. Aeration in an activated sludge process is based on pumping air into a tank, which promotes microbial growth in the wastewater. The microbes feed on the organic material, forming flocks that can easily settle out. After settling in a separate settling tank, bacteria forming the "activated sludge" flocks are continually recirculated back to the aeration basin to increase the rate of decomposition.

Market Dynamics

The global Water Treatment Aerators Market is primarily driven by the increased demand for secondary wastewater treatment in developing countries like India and China.

India currently experiences the worst water crisis in its history. And the demand for the vital resource will continue to rise. With a share of 79 percent, farming still is India’s largest consumer of water. However, the industry catches up: while the industrial sector accounted for five percent of the total of 634 billion cubic meters of water, the demand will quadruple by 2030 according to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). An outlook that provides a boost to the country’s industrial wastewater management industry.

However, the rising energy prices have hampered the growth of Water Treatment Aerators, as the water aerators are energy-intensive.

Market Segmentation

By product type, the global Water Treatment Aerators Market is segmented into Immersed Aerators, Surface Aerators, and others. Immersed Aerators have the dominant position in the Water treatment aerators market due to the reason immersed aeration systems are less costly to operate than surface aerators. The power that it takes to pump water up is much more significant than what it takes to pump air down, causing surface aerators systems to cost 2-3 times more than Immersed aerators systems to operate.

According to some studies, shows that Immersed aerators can have an oxygen transfer rate up to 10 times more than surface aerators. For example, at 10ft of water up to 16% of the oxygen diffused can be dissolved into the water using immersed aerators; at 15ft over 20% can be dissolved. The oxygen transfer rate using surface aerators typically ranges between 1.6 and 3.2%.

By application, the global Water Treatment Aerators Market is segmented into Industrial, Municipal, and others. Municipal have higher dominance in the water treatment aerator market due to the rapid urbanization in the country, there has been a commensurate increase in the need for and the use of water. Almost 80 percent of the water supplied for domestic use, comes out as wastewater and needs treatment, increasing the municipal share.

Geographical Analysis

By geography, the global Water Treatment Aerators Market is segmented into North America, Asia-Pacific (APAC), Europe, South America, and Middle East and Africa (MEA).

APAC holds the largest market share for Water Treatment Aerators Market due rapid population growth and urbanization, industrial growth across Southeast Asia (SEA) and Central China. This has made APAC hold most of the market share and will retain its dominance in the forecast years. However, Europe is after APAC in terms of market share of Water Treatment Aerators Market, due to increasing regulations for wastewater treatment.

In August 2018, New emissions and efficiency standards will help national authorities to lower the environmental impact of the largest waste treatment installations in the EU, dealing with both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. This represents around 4,000 installations.

Competitive Analysis

Key players are adopting strategies such as Acquistion, mergers, joint venture, new product launches, and investment in R&D to stand out as strong competitors in the market. The major players include GE Water, Tonka Water, RWL Water, Lenntech, and Aqua-Aerobic Systems. Other key players in the market include Enfound Enterprise co., Environmental Dynamics, Zenit, Tsurumi Pump, NORRES Schlauchtechnik, Newterra Ltd., and Faggiolati Pumps.

In March 2019, Newterra Ltd. did a strategic partnership with export financing company Elevate Export Finance Corp. In working with Elevate, Newterra can now provide its US-based and international customers with financing options that support its wide-ranging treatment solutions for water, wastewater, and groundwater.

In March 2018, Newterra Ltd. acquired Aeration Industries International, LLC. Aeration Industries is an internationally recognized leader in wastewater aeration and mixing solutions serving the industrial, municipal, and aquaculture markets. Aeration Industries has been owned by Granite Equity Partners of St. Cloud, MN, since 2010. The acquisition will further diversify Newterra's revenue mix and strengthen its growing industrial footprint, highlighted by expansion into new international markets, increased presence in industrial wastewater treatment, and adding a strong presence in the fast-growing global aquaculture market. Together, the companies have more than 220 highly-trained water professionals with experience operating in over 110 countries. The combined company will leverage shared resources and work together to offer expanded services and solutions through uniting its manufacturers' representative network to its growing list of satisfied customers.
