Ethical food involves the moral consequences of food choices made by humans and animals. Ethical food refers to those types of food that follow ethical production standards such as cleanliness and proper hygiene without causing any damage to the food source and environment. Apart from this, ethical food practices involve good labor practices, fair distribution of wealth, fair trade and animal welfare.

Ethical production and consumerism are growing with rising global awareness of sustainability and eco-friendly concepts. Furthermore, Companies are being forced to focus on sustainable products due to recent climatic changes and environmental challenges such as carbon emissions, global warming, plastic and food waste. Companies and consumers gravitate toward ethical/sustainable-certified products as environmental concerns grow.

Different food choices are available following ethical food practices such as meat, dairy, seafood, crops and others. Vegetarian food is expected to grow in the forecast period with a CAGR of 14.8% during 2021-2028. The segment growth is due to the rising population size globally in the past few decades.

Furthermore, the food system has become increasingly global since the 1970s and a small number of multinational businesses currently control trade in many food products. As a result, the share of industrially processed foods in people's diets is rising worldwide.

North America holds a significant position in the global ethical food market in the forecast period. Regional growth is due to stringent government regulations, growing sustainable food awareness among consumers and increasing companies' investment in the ethical food market.

Argentina is one of South America's major food producers. Thousands of farmers and peasant families in Argentina have been working in isolation for decades. The farmers have been marginalized in an agricultural industry mostly dedicated to soy and meat.

The business model limited the variety of food available to the general public while also harming the environment by diminishing soil. Food production is now concentrated in the hands of a few large landowners: according to the National Agricultural Census, published in 2019, only 1% of registered landowners possess 36% of exploitable land.

UTT is working in Argentina to bring together small-scale farmers and peasants to produce pesticide-free fruits and vegetables within a fairtrade framework. The union was founded ten years ago and today sells vegetables in over 200 sites around the country. The UTT organizes small-scale farmers and peasants in Argentina to produce fruits and vegetables without pesticides and within a fairtrade framework. The organization currently includes 10,000 families who produce food on their own and sell it at reasonable prices in over 200 places across the country.

Animal welfare concerns are also rising across Argentina. According to the Institute for the Promotion of Beef, younger generations are beginning to question the ethics of killing animals for food. Argentina's population is cutting back on meat consumption. Traditional meat-heavy diets are being phased out for various reasons, including health and animal welfare.

Animal rights activists rallied outside Congress in August 2019, holding a banner that stated "no a la crueldad animal" or "no to animal cruelty." The protesters also painted the ground red to represent animal carnage.

Brazil is the world's third-largest agricultural exporter, trailing only the European Union and U.S. Most waste occurs in industrialized countries like the U.S when customers buy more food than they can use, resulting in a large amount of food being thrown away at home. A considerable percentage of food is lost in developing nations like Brazil before reaching supermarkets and homes. Around half of the fruits & vegetables that go to waste in Brazil are lost in the transport and handling process. The companies and governments should focus on reducing food wastage during transportation and storage purposes.

However, various companies are committing to ethical practices in the food market through different approaches. For instance, in 2021, the Imerys facility in Brás Cubas received certification from the SMETA 4 Pillars audit in the area of sustainability, which is based on four pillars: Health & Safety, Labor Standard, Environment and Business Practices and follows the concepts and requirements of OHSAS 18001, SA 8000, ISO 14001 and the ETI Code (Ethical Trade Initiative Code). The facility processes minerals for the food sector, like calcium-based products are used in food & beverage.

In Brazil, Nestle is committed to improving the nutritional content of meals and beverages while lowering additives like sugar and salt to promote excellent health. The company has cut over 350 tons of sodium, 5,000 tons of saturated fats and 6,900 tons of sugar from the items sold in the country during the last three years.
